NetLibrary Recommendations

 It can be difficult to find a good audio book to listen to.  Please email your recommendations and suggestions to be posted here.

  • There are 3 Jodi Picoult books available on NetLibrary.  Plain Truth is my favorite. 
  • Mercy and Salem Falls contain graphic language.
  • Battle Cry for Freedom is more of a History Textbook format, but is entertaining and is a great overview of the Civil War.
  • Horrible Harry series or Akimbo and the Elephants series are great for elementary age kids.
  • Anything by Alexander McCall Smith is entertaining and clean, as far as I know.  I've listened to almost everything by him and nothing objectionable yet.  Sherrilynn
  • Way with Words is a college level lecture on using words well.  Very good!
  • There are over 15 Modern Scholar lectures available (excellent college level lectures)
  • Many required books are available: Huckleberry Finn, Dracula, etc.  (To Kill A Mockingbird is available on CD)

My faves on NetLibrary – all of the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters, read by Barbara Rosenblat.  Ms. Rosenblat is a fabulous reader who really “gets” the characters.  The stories in and of themselves are wonderful, set in

Egypt from the late 1800s into the early 1900s.   I recently listened to The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley.  It is an older YA fantasy.  Great story and the reader was very good too. The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley is separated into 4 audio books, but it is well worth the time to listen to it. The reader beautifully narrates an extremely large cast of characters.  The plot is the story of King Arthur’s coming to the throne and his reign in

Britain told from the perspective of the women of the time.  A classic!
